Stud Company Ltd
Registered 1872. Dissolved <1916. Company number 6401. The company owned the Cobham Stud and the principle shareholder and director was William Allison, a noted horse breeding expert. They acquired ‘Blair Athol’ described by Tattersalls as the ‘best horse in the world’ for a huge sum of 12,500 guineas. High stud fees and the inconsistency of ‘Blair Athol’s’ foals caused breeders disinterest and by 1879 the stud was up for sale. Sir Charles Legard, 11th Baronet (1846 – 1901), Conservative Party politician was also a director.
