Registered 1896 as Sr W. G. Armstrong & Co. Ltd. Name changed to Sir W.G. Armstrong, Whitworth & Co. Ltd.in March 1897 and to this on 6th July 1929. Company number 46687.
This giant industrial company was formed by amalgamation of Joseph Whitworth and Armstrong Mitchell in 1897. Shipbuilders, arms manufacturer and automobile manufacturers. Merged with Vickers in 1927 to form Vickers-Armstrong but the autombole division passed to J.D.Siddeley to form Armstrong-Siddeley who continued to production of quality vehicles.
Capital £4,210,000 in 200,000 4% Preference shares of £5 and 3,210,000 Ordinary shares of £1. Increased to £7,012,500, and again in 1920 to £11,012,500.
