Durham and Sunderland Railway Company
Incorporated on 13th August 1834
A 16 mile standard gauge line between the towns which was opened in stages between 1836 and 1845. The company was absorbed by the Newcastle and Darlington Junction Railway (which had already bought the Durham Junction Railway) and so formed part of the North Eastern Railway from 1863.
Capital £272,000 divided into Whole Shares of £50 each and New Shares of £50 each. Loans of £190,600.
