East Somerset Railway Company
Incorporated on 5th June 1856
A broad gauge line between Witham and Shepton Mallet, also connecting with the Wilts, Somerset and Weymouth Railway. The line opened in 1858 and was absorbed by the Great Western in 1874.
Capital £75,000 in shares and loans of £25,000. Extension capital of £40,000 and loans £13,000 authorised in 1857 and £55,000 in 5% preference stock created for this purpose.
