Thames and Severn Canal Navigation
Formed by Act of Parliament in 1783. Completed in 1789 to connect The Thames at Inglesham Lock near Lechlade to the Stroudwater Navigation. The Sapperton Tunnel was at the time the longest in the country. Failed due to railway competition and abandoned in 1927. Like many others now in the hands of a Trust and open for pleasure craft.
