Philadelphia Loan Company
Chartered in Pennsylvania in 1836 with offices in Walnut Street. The company was very active for a couple of years making loans on securities and taking deposits. It even issued its own circulating notes (shin plasters), the first issue of which had to be hastily withdrawn due to extensive forging. Rumours in 1839 that the president and cashier had absconded after issuing fictitious stock were in the news in June 1839 and the company was pursued by its creditors to reorganise. It ceased to exist later in the year.
Capital $500,000 in shares of $25.
