Formed around 1889. Cable manufacturer based in Woolwich, London, extending the business to submarine cables around the turn of the century. Made all types of electrical cable, worked with the British Government during WWII. Acquired by Associated Electrical Industries in 1957.
One of the directors was Sir Henry Morton Stanley, 1841-1904, explorer, journalist, soldier and colonial adminstrator, famous for his exploration of central Africa and his search for the missionary and fellow explorer David Livingstone greeting him with the famous line ‘Dr.Livingstone, I presume?’
Capital £300,000 in 30,000 ordinary shares and 30,000 preference shares of £5. Increased in 1900 to £400,000.
