Description
The Society of the Syzran-Pechersk Asphalt and Mining Industry was founded in 1882 by the Samara entrepreneur A. I. Jordan on the basis of the “Association of the Syzran Asphalt Plant” D. I. Voeikov (1843 – December 4 (16), 1896) established in 1879 ), rightfully considered one of the pioneers of asphalt-tar production in Russia.
The representative of an old noble family, Dmitry Ivanovich Voeikov, having retired after serving in Poland, in 1868 moved to his estate in the village of Samaikino, Syzran district. At one time, he was overwhelmed by a dream to find oil in the vicinity of Syzran. And there was something else here – sandy asphalt. Voeikov, together with the famous zoologist Modest Bogdanov, discovered it at Bakhilov’s dacha. This made it possible to establish the production of mastic and tar from local raw materials of excellent quality. (source: Wikipedia)
