Ardrossan and Johnstone Railway Company
Incorporated on 14th June 1827
A railway line planned by the Glasgow, Paisley and Ardrossan Canal company to connect the existing Ardrossan Harbour (built by the Earl of Eglinton as a sea port for Glasgow) to Kilwinning and Johnstone. The short horse-operated line (which never reached Johnstone) opened in 1831 and was altered and extended to join the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway in 1840, when the company was renamed the Ardrossan Railway.
