Barry Dock and Railways Company
Incorporated on 14th August 1884.
Formed to build a dock at Barry Island and 27 miles of railway line, all standard gauge, leading to the Rhonda Valley and the South Wales Coalfields. It was opened in several stages from1885 to 1896 including extensions, re-named the Barry Railway in 1891 and absorbed by the Great Western company in 1922.
Original capital £1,190,000 divided into 59,124 Ordinary Shares and 59,876 Preference Shares of £10 each. Extension capital in 1885 £90,000 and loans £30,000. Increased in 1889 by £300,000 and loans £100,000, and in 1890 by £240,000 and £80,000 respectively.
