Incorporated on 3rd August 1846
A line providing an alternative route to London via Oxford and the Great Western Railway. Proposed by the Grand Junction Railway which was in competition with the London and Birmingham Railway at the time. The Great Western company built the track in broad-gauge, and eventually bought the line in 1848. It was opened to public traffic in 1852. The Birmingham and Oxford Junction line became an important subsidiary main-line of the Great Western Railway.
