Sir John Denison Pender 1855-1929, was the son of Sir John Pender, founder of the Eastern Telegraph. Honoured for his services during the Boer War and WWI where the company was responsible for the majority of submarine cables and effectively cut off Germany’s communications with the rest of the world.
