City of Melbourne Bank Limited
Formed in 1873. Incorporated in 1892. Certificates can be signed by signed by Colin Longmuir as General Manager. Longmuir gained the position of General Manager at the age of 35 during the Provincial and Suburban Bank crisis. In 1884 He gained another coup acquiring the Joint Stock Bank of Ballarat controlled by Benjamin Fink making the newly enlarged bank the largest gold buyer in Victoria. Funds of the bank were used by the directors and especially Longmuir. Longmuir died suddenly on a trip to England and during later investigations it transpired that he had been using the banks money using 10 different accounts.
Capital £2,500,000 in 100,000 preference shares of £5 and 400,000 ordinary shares of £5.
