Incorporated by Royal Charter in 1851 as a reorganisation of the Bank of Western India formed in 1842. Capital in shares of £25.
Failed and re-registered as the New Oriental Bank Corporation Ltd.
The 1851 Charter gave the bank powers to operate anywhere East of the Cape of Good Hope. It quickly opened a branch network throughout out India, China, Japan, Ceylon and Mauritius.
