Commercial Company of Salonica Limited
Formed by 1895 in England. Controlled by the wealthy Allatini family who owned a tobacco factory, a huge industrial complex including brickworks and flour mills in Salonica which still stands but is derelict. They are considered the largest of their type in the orient. The large family house ‘Villa Allatini’ was built for the family in 1896. It became the refuge for the deposed Sultan in 1909.
Capital £300,000 in 299,100 ordinary shares and 900 founders shares of £1. Increased to £400,000 in 1896. Reduced by endorsement to £200,000 in 399,100 ordinary shares and 900 founders shares of 10 shillings. In 1912 all Founders shares were converted into ordinary shares and capital changed to £230,000 in 460,000 shares of 10/-. Capital reduced again by endorsement in 1923 to £115,000 in 460,000 shares of 5 shillings after 5/- repaid on each of the shares. Capital amended in 1930 to £165,000 in shares of 5/-.
