Midland Great Western Railway of Ireland Company
Incorporated on 21st July 1845. A 50 mile line connecting Dublin with the town of Mullingar, later extended to Galway. It opened in 1847-48 onwards in sections until 1864. The company absorbed a number of other railways, and merged with the Great Southern Railway of Ireland in 1924.
Original Capital £1,433,000 in 20,660 Shares of £50 each, and 16,000 New Shares of £25 each. Loans of £477,000. Increased to £4,761,980 in stock and shares, and £2,422,966 in loans by 1910.
