The company was founded in 1898 to take over an iron foundry and machine factory owned by V.M. Grigoriev & Co. in Rostov. The company specialised in agricultural machinery. From 1903 onwards, Aksai Co. also started to produce cars and later also (aviation) engines. For its production of automobiles, it worked together with the American firm Oldsmobile (later part of General Motors). However, the cars were manufactured in Russia itself. During WWI, the company also built trucks. Renamed Krasny Aksai under Soviet times. (source: Boone April 2022)
