Description
The fertile region between the Sea of Azov and the Caucasus is ideal for the cultivation of cereals such as wheat. Hence the foundation of this grain mill in 1894. In 1908, the company realised a turnover of 2.5 million roubles with 50 workmen. It became a limited company in 1909 with a capital of 400,000 roubles. The daughter of one of the founders, Boris Riss, was Sofia Borissovna (1884-1964). She married the German revolutionary communist Karl Liebknecht. Alarmed by the rise of Hitler, she returned to the Soviet Union to live under the protection of Stalin. (Source: Boone Oct 2021)
