Description
The mines were in the North Ossetia region of the North Caucasus, in what is now known as The Republic of North Ossetia–Alania. The republic’s capital city is the city of Vladikavkaz, located on the foothills of the Caucasus Mountains. The coal in Tkwibouly-Scha’orsk was first discovered in 1845 but its exploitation only started in 1887, when the Tkwibuly Railroad was built and transportation became possible.
