Description
Certificate for founding of the steam bakery in Petersburg in July 1870 by the US politician and industrialist Henry D. Moore. Henry Dunning Moore (1817-1887), lumber manufacturer and granite importer was a representative for the Whig party in the US House of Representatives. From 1870 to 1877, Moore lived in St. Petersburg, where he founded a brewery as well as a bakery. (Source: FHW auction 102)
Certificate for ‘1 Interest’ is signed by Henry Dunning Moore and Consul George Pomutz. George Pomutz (1818-1882), US general and diplomat, 1866-1870 US consul in St. Petersburg, led the Russian-American negotiations on the purchase of Alaska from 1866 (the USA bought the area from the Russian Empire in 1867).
