Description
The company was founded in 1912 with a capital of 15 million roubles, but its history goes back to the 18th century when copper was discovered in Pavda, Yekaterinenburg (Ural Mountains). Upon the discovery of gold and platinum ore around 1912, the company built a smelter. As such, it was Russia’s first producer of platinum, one of the rarest elements on Earth. Other rare metals were also melted at the company installations. During the Soviet period, the firm was of strategic importance for the defense industry. The company is still active now, called the Ekaterinenburg Factory for the Processing of Ferrous Metals.
