Description
In the North Caucasus, in Ossetia, the production of silver products has been developing for a long time. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, silver mining was transferred to an industrial basis. The silver mines were supplemented by deposits of zinc and lead. They were developed by both large and small enterprises. The largest structures for the extraction of non-ferrous metals in the Vladikavkaz region were the enterprises of the Alagir Society and the Terek Mining Society.
But the Terek Mining Joint-Stock Company was founded not in the Caucasus. It was created in 1898 in Moscow. The founders were: Prince P.N. Trubetskoy, nobleman G.I. Christie and the merchant of the 1st guild L.V. Gauthier. Lev Vladimirovich Gautier already had experience in metallurgy. Previously, he became the founder of the Tula Metallurgical Company. He was elected chairman of the joint-stock company. And an experienced entrepreneur was also appointed director of the company. They became the German K.K. Geberde, who had 30 years of experience in managing silver-lead mines.
The Terek Mining Company began preparations for the operation of the mines transferred to it in the North Caucasus and the construction of an ore-dressing plant. At the same time, the active work of the Partnership “G.I. Christie and Prince S.N. Trubetskoy” in the field of prospecting and development of new ore deposits.
In 1898, the exploration and mines of the Terek mining society were managed by I.N. Strizhov, one of the founders of the oil industry in Russia, working for 20 years in the oil partnership of the Nobel brothers.
Mmetallurgy and metalworking continued to develop. So, along with the Terek mining company, the largest enterprise in Ossetia was the Alagir company. However, later “Alagir” passed into the hands of the Belgians. In Soviet times, the Electrozinc plant began to work on its basis. The Terek mining company, which was nationalized after the 1917 revolution, had the same fate. (Source: CentroCredit Bank website; authors: Tsvetkova Elena Alexandrovna, Tsvetkov Vasily Zhanovich)
