Tulle Factory Association
Товарищество Тюлевой Фабрики вь С.-Петербург
Other city spellings: St.-Pétersbourg, Petrograde, Pétrograde
The company was formed in 1837 in St. Petersburg for the manufacture of tulle fabric.
1837
Description
The company started in 1834, when a weaving workshop for the production of smooth tulle began on the bank of Bolshaya Nevka. The word ‘tulle’ came from the French city of Tulle, where the production of mesh fabric was established in the 17th century. In 1837, a joint-stock partnership was formed. The company regularly participated in the all-Russian industrial exhibitions; its curtains, tablecloths, lace scarves, etc. consistently received prizes. In 1865, the partnership received the right to depict the state emblem on its products, signs and advertising. This was a “quality mark” and testified that the products were delivered to the imperial court.
