Constituted 24th June 1920. The hotel was designed by Fernando Guerrero Strachan and built from 1921. It was inaugurated in 1926 by King Alfonso XXIII. It was used as a Hospital during the Spanish Civil War but reopened as a hotel in 1940. In recent years the building has been used by the Palace of Justice and the Ministry of Finance who offered it for sale to be reopened as a hotel. It is now the Gran Hotel Miramar, voted the best luxury hotel in Spain in 2018.
