Barnum and Bailey Ltd
Registered 1899. Dissolved <1916. Company number 60665. Formed in 1899 at the start of the Barnum and Bailey Circus European Tour. The largest in the world the train consisted of some 60 railway carriages and operated 3 rings instead of the European norm of only one. The origin of the term ‘a three ring circus’. Sold to Ringling Brothers in 1906 following the untimely death of Bailey. Barnum had died in 1891.
