Basingstoke and Alton Light Railway Company
Incorporated under Light Railway Order 9th December 1897.
Proposed by Sir John Scotter of the London and South Western Railway, the line was the first to be built under the new legislation, and opened in 1901. It soon closed in 1917 and the rails were removed, but it was re-instated in 1924 following pressure from local public, and worked until 1936.
