Brandling Junction Railway Company
Incorporated on 7th June 1836
A line just under 16 miles in length from Gateshead to South Shields, originally projected by one man, Mr R. W. Brandling. It was originally planned to be completed without the aid of public funding, but this was abandoned and the public company known as the Brandling Junction Railway was formed. The Newcastle and Carlisle Railway absorbed the company and it passed to the North Eastern Railway in 1862.
Capital £110,000 in shares and loans of £36,000.
