Clarence and Hartlepool Railway Company
Incorporated in 1837
Otherwise known as the South Durham Railway, the proposed line was to be an extension of the existing Clarence Railway. Other sections were proposed but not authorised, and the Great North of England, Clarence and Hartlepool Junction Railway and the West Durham Railway built these sections, resulting in three separate companies within the South Durham (Clarence and Hartlepool) route.
