Devon and Somerset Railway Company
Incorporated on 29th July 1864
A 42¼ mile broad gauge line from Barnstaple to the Bristol and Exeter Railway in Taunton. In 1866 the latter company agreed to work and maintain the line, and following this, connections were made with the Tiverton, and the North Devon Railways. The line was converted to standard gauge in 1881 and passed to the Great Western in 1901.
Capital £500,000 in shares of £25 each, and loans of £166,000. Increased in subsequent years. Total Capital £1,386,620.
