Exeter and Exmouth Railway Company
Incorporated on 2nd July 1855
A broad-gauge line intended to connect the city and coastal town. The original standard-gauge line (incorporated 1846), planned to connect to the South Western Railway in Exeter but was abandoned as the latter company had not yet reached the city. The line was re-incorporated in 1855, to be built in the broad gauge in keeping with the existing railways in the area. Eventually the company’s capital was reduced to £50,000, and the line was jointly constructed with the London and South Western company from 1858, and absorbed by them in 1865.
Capital £160,000 in 16,000 Shares of £10 each. Loans of £53,000. Reduced to £50,000 and £16,000 respectively.
