The main Reform Club in London was founded in 1836 for the benefit of Radicals and Whigs pledging support for the Great Reform Act of 1832 who subsequently developed the Club as the political headquarters of the Liberal Party. Many local clubs were subsequently formed in provincial towns of which this is one.
