Lancaster and Carlisle Railway Company
Incorporated on 6th June 1844.
A 70 mile standard gauge line connecting with the Lancaster and Preston, the Newcastle and Carlisle and the Caledonian Railways. It opened in 1846 and amalgamated with the Lancaster and Preston Railway in 1859, passing to the London and North Western Railway in 1879.
Capital £1,306,000 in 18,000 Whole shares of £50 each, and 18,000 Third shares of £16.13s each. New capital raised in 1853 to cover mortgage debt.
