Manchester and Leeds Railway Company
Incorporated on 4th July 1836.
A standard gauge line running over 50 miles to connect the cities. It opened throughout in 1841 having had engineering difficulties along its route. The line amalgamated with the Manchester and Bolton Railway among others, and was re-named the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway in 1847.
Capital £3,542,100 divided into; 13,000 £100 Whole Shares; 13,000 £50 Half Shares; 19,500 £25 Quarter Shares; 103,565 £20 Shares; 24,336 £6.5s Sixteenth Shares, and 48,146 £32 Third Share ‘Extension Stock’. Loans of £1,118,800.
