Registered 1904. The newspaper was founded by the Sowler family in 1825 as a staunch Tory publication. It came under the control of Alfred Harmsworth (Lord Northcliffe) in 1904, represented by this company, and he installed Arthur Stephenson as managing director and he signs many certificates. Another director who often signs is brewing magnate W. Slater Boddington, son of the founder, Henry Boddington. The paper however made losses every year and was closed in 1916.<1950.
