New River Company
Obtained a Charter from James I in 1604 to cut a ‘new river’ from the River Lea to supply London with fresh water. Information is confusing as also 1619 is stated as the date of the Royal Charter but the waterworks had been opened since 1613. One of the earliest joint stock companies to be formed. Later incorporated under the companies Acts
Taken over by the Metropolitan Water Board in 1904.
Capital by 1912 £240,000 in shares of £1. (What was the company doing at this date?)
