News of the World Limited
Originally established as a broadsheet by John Browne Bell in 1843, who realised that crime, sensation and vice sold most copies. Sold to Henry Lascelles Carr in 1891 and registered as a Limited Liability Company (number 34016). He brought in his nephew Emsley Carr (later Sir Emsley) to help run it. Reorganised and re-registered 28th July 1904 following the death of Lascelled Carr. In 1969 it was bought from the Carrs by Rupert Murdoch’s media firm News Limited.
Capital by 1935 following a further restructuring £2,100,000 in 1,000,000 7% First Preference shares of £1, 700,000 8% Second Cumulative Preference shares of £1 and 400,000 Ordinary shares of £1.
