Raphael Tuck and Sons Ltd
Registered 1895. Tuck was of German extraction but settled in England in 1865. He opened a picture framing shop in the 1880’s which greatly expanded when his three sons entered the business to become importers and publishers. The firm are no doubt best known for their huge range of quality greeting cards and postcards, widely collected today. By 1904 the firm had over 15,000 designs in print, many reproducing works by well known artists of the day. Sadly Raphael House was destroyed by bombing in 1940 and many originals and records were lost . The company continued until the mid 1960’s when they were acquired by Purnell & Sons.
