Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway Company
Incorporated on 26th May 1873. A narrow gauge (2ft 9in OR 3ft) light railway, connecting the towns and Iron mines to the Whitehaven and Furness Junction Railway. It opened in 1875-76 and ran until closing in 1908. The Narrow-Gauge Railway Co. Ltd (Bassett-Lowke and Proctor-Mitchell) took over in 1915 and changed to 15in gauge, re-opening a majority of the line as a tourist attraction.
