Starley Brothers and Westwood Manufacturing Company Ltd
Also Starley Bros & Westwood Manufacturing Co. Ltd.
Registered 1896. Dissolved <1916. Company number 49949.
An amalgamation of Starley Brothers, very well known cycle manufacturers in Birmingham, with Westwood Manufauring Company, makers of cycle components. Starley first introduced the ‘Ariel’ name in the 1870’s for one of their cycles but it was dropped and did not appear again until the time of this amalgamation when it was noted that an Ariel motor tricycle was produced. There appears to be some confusion over whether the Ariel motorcycle business was then sold to Cycle Components Manufacturing Company Limited, later just Components Limited and this company just continued with cycles.
Capital £110,000 on ordinary shares of £1.
