Glasgow and South Western Railway Company
Incorporated on 9th July 1847
Formed by the amalgamation of the newly opened Glasgow, Dumfries and Carlisle Railway with the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway. The new company extended the existing routes South, and later ran a service to London together with the Midland Railway. It passed to the London, Midland and Scottish Railway at grouping.
Total capital in shares and stock £10,155,510 and loans of £2,933,207. This includes various new amounts raised in 1878, 1881, 1882, 1883, 1886 and 1889.
