Burry Port and Gwendraeth Valley Railway Company
Incorporated on 30th April 1866
Originally formed in 1813 as the ‘Kidwelly and Llanelly Canal and Tramroad Company’.
The 20 mile line connected with the Pembrey Harbour Railway (renamed Burry Port) by way of a canal and tramroad. The original company was re-named the Kidwelly and Burry Port Railway in 1865, and merged with the Burry Port in 1866 to form the Burry Port and Gwendraeth Valley Railway, a goods line later converted for passenger traffic. It passed to the Great Western in 1922.
Original Capital £120,000 in shares and loans of 18,000. Increased to £280,000 and £93,000 respectively in subsequent years.
