Penarth Harbour, Dock and Railway Company

A 6 mile double gauge line from the Taff Vale Railway to the River Ely, originally named the Ely Tidal Harbour and Railway. The company was
re-named the Penarth Harbour, Dock and Railway in 1857, and its capital increased to allow the construction of a new dock. The line was leased to the Taff Vale Railway and passed to the Great Western.
Original capital £130,000 in shares of £100 each, loans of £43,000. Increased capital in 1857 by £192,000, and loans increased to £107,000. New capital raised in 1881 of £150,000 and £50,000 in loans for the Dock Extension, this followed by further increases in the 1880’s.
1857
