Washington Auditorium Corporation
Incorporated in Virginia in 1922 to build the auditorium on the corner of 19th and E. Street NW. When it finally opened in 1925 it was capable of seating 6000 people and boasted a $120,000 pipe organ. Although well occupied for a few years by the time the depression started in 1930 it was suffering from lack of finance but it still manage to host Franklin Roosevelt’s inaugural ball in 1933. Leased to the Federal Government in 1935 for office use, it lasted until 1957 when it was condemned for demolition and the company received over $1 million in compensation.
