Abner Doble made his first steam car before the age of 20. He sold his Abner Doble Motor Vehicle Company to General Engineering to make his Model C and initial orders were huge but were shut down by the government steel restrictions for the war effort. Doble quickly reorganised in 1917 as this company and a few hundred cars were made before the company was again reorganised as Doble Steam Motors of California.
