General Brayton Ives (1840 – 1914), Union Civil War General, banker and president of the New York Stock Exchange 1878 and 1879. Later President of the Northern Pacific Railway.
Thomas Fortune Ryan (1851 – 1928), tobacco, insurance and transport magnate. In the 1880’s Ryan controlled much of the New York tram system through Metropolitan Traction. Merged tobacco companies to create Union Tobacco which he later merged with James Duke to form American Tobacco. He also developed British-American Tobacco.
