Electric Sugar Refining Company
The company was set up around 1888 by fraudster Henry Friend who convinced W.H.Cotterill, who signs the certificates, that he had perfected a process of sugar refining. Cotterill and US investors put up much of the money whilst more was raised in England. The company was wound up in the courts in 1889 when it was realised that Friend ‘s invention was only in his imagination.
