Newport Bank
Founded in 1803, the bank was heavily involved in financing the slave trade. Converted to Newport National Bank in 1865. Its President was Constant Taber (1743-1826), Chief Judge in Connecticut, Navy agent under Thomas Jefferson.Moved to Rhode Island and became President of the State House of Representatives. Leiutenant Governor of Rhode Island, 1807 and 1808.
