South Sea Company
Formed as The Governor and Company of the merchants of Great Britain, trading to the South Seas and other parts of America, and for the encouragement of the Fishery in January 1711 and was involved in gneral trade and also granted a monopoly for the supply of slaves to the West Indies. It was however most famous for its consolidation of the National Debt of England and the general speculation in its stock which eventually collapsed in 1720.
